A man recently filed a low testosterone drug lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The plaintiff named low testosterone drug maker companies AbbVie, Abbott Laboratories, Lilly USA Inc., and Eli Lilly and Company as defendants. These companies allegedly took part in aggressive low testosterone drug marketing practices. Further, the plaintiff alleges these ads intentionally mislead men about low testosterone treatments’ safety and efficacy. This resulted in many men suffering heart attacks, strokes and other serious cardiovascular events. Since low testosterone products don’t carry warnings about cardiovascular risks, the plaintiff is suing for negligence as well as failure to warn.
Low Testosterone Drug Maker Named in Wrongful Death Lawsuit
According to court documents, on April 17, 2014, a Delaware man became administrator of his father’s estate. This happened after his father died from a heart attack on April 4, 2014. Initially, the family had no reason to think that the medications he had been on, which included low testosterone treatments AndroGel and Axiron, may have contributed to his untimely death, but now the man is blaming manufacturers of these therapies for not sufficiently providing safety warnings and for misrepresenting these as not having serious, life-threatening side effects.
Studies Prompt FDA to Issue Low Testosterone Drug Warning
After two studies linked testosterone treatment to cardiac events, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration took action. In January 2014, the FDA issued a low testosterone drug safety warning about increased risk for stroke, heart attack and death. As a result, the Delaware man suspected that his father has been taking were connected to his death.
