Transvaginal & Pelvic Mesh

500 TVM Lawsuits Settled Against C.R. Bard

Women all over the world have been treated for stress urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse (POP) with transvaginal mesh (TVM). Vaginal mesh has caused serious complications in many of these women, and thousands of females have needed surgery to remove the mesh. This led to numerous lawsuits filed against the manufacturers of TVM for faulty devices.

One such manufacturer is C.R. Bard, and the company had agreed to settle more than 500 of the total 12,500 transvaginal mesh lawsuits filed against it. The majority  of the cases against Bard Avaulta are consolidated as part of a federal multidistrict litigation in the Southern District of West Virginia. The litigation is presided over by U.S. District Judge Joseph Goodwin.

Many of the lawsuits feature complaints by women who allegedly suffered severe complications from the vaginal mesh, and they claim that that the Bard mesh is defective. The women believe that there’s an unreasonable risk of erosion with this product, which leads to serious pelvic injuries.

Bard agreed to settle more than 500 of the currently pending cases for an undisclosed amount of money, and the company noted that it’s continuing to discuss additional settlements with plaintiffs.

Transvaginal mesh lawsuits have been centralized before Judge Goodwin in order to cut down on conflicting rulings, reduce the need for discovery and to better convenience the involved parties and witnesses.

The latest case list, which was released July 15, 2014, noted that in addition to these Bard cases, Judge Goodwin is presiding over 17,901 American Medical Systems, 18,501 Ethicon, 12,299 Boston Scientific, 1,506 Coloplast, 213 Cook Medical and 74 Neomedic transvaginal mesh lawsuits.

If you have had to undergo mesh removal surgery and want to file your own transvaginal mesh lawsuit, it’s best to contact a lawyer before proceeding. Speaking with someone who has experience with mass tort cases and the background knowledge and expertise needed to win may be very beneficial to your claim.
